MLB Trade SZN

With tomorrow's MLB trade deadline approaching quickly, the two biggest names allegedly on the block still haven't been moved. And, after the Mariners sent four prospects to the Reds in exchange for righty ace Luis Castillo, the price for either Juan Soto or Shohei Ohtani has only gone up πŸ“ˆ

It's hard to imagine either of the game's best young stars changing teams, especially when acquiring them might cost almost a half-dozen of the game's top prospects, so it could be Seattle that ultimately ends up with the week's biggest prize πŸ’°

Today, the Mariners make their way to the Bronx for the first of a three-game set with the Yankees. Though Castillo shouldn't be pitching until Wednesday when he takes on Gerrit Cole, that doesn't mean that there isn't plenty to watch for in today's opener

Most notably, Aaron Judge is on a historic tear, with his offensive numbers comparing favorably to even the greatest players to wear pinstripes. And, apparently he's only heating up πŸ‘‡

  • He has 12 homers in his last 15 games

  • He's the first player in Yankees history to hit 40 homers before the start of August

  • He's the second-fastest player in major league history to reach 200 career home runs

As for the Mariners, Julio Rodriguez has blossomed into one of the game's brightest stars at just 21 years old, and is coming off of an electrifying Home Run Derby performance where he hit 82 homers. Sadly he was just put on the IL after being ht by a pitch, but if I wasn't already watching for Judge, I'd be tuning in to support young Julio's team 🏏

  • Spread: Yankees -1.5

  • Moneyline: Yankees -178 (bet $178, win $100), Mariners +150 (bet $100, win $150)

  • O/U: 9 Total Runs

Trivia Question: Which slugger is the only one in MLB history to reach 200 ding dongs in fewer games that Aaron Judge? (answer below)

Renewing the Rivalry

Since 2010, the Dodgers or Giants have represented the National League in the World series six out of 12 times, with one of those two teams winning a combined four titles. While the Dodgers are clearly the better team this season, don't think for a second that LA isn't still bitter about the Giants' playoff supremacy for the first part of the last decade 😏

On Monday, the two teams will play their 10th game of the season against each other, with the Dodgers winning six of the first nine contests so far. However, the Giants have the much more proven arm toeing the slab in this one, perhaps giving them a slight edge ✏️

  • Logan Webb, who leads the majors with 21 starts, has improved upon his ERA from last year, lowering it to just 2.91

  • He also has a cult following on Twitter πŸ˜‚

But still, the Dodgers' rotation is as stacked as any in baseball, and their starter is no slouch either πŸ‘€

  • Having recently returned from a shoulder strain in his pitching arm, lefty Andrew Heaney has totaled almost 20 innings, allowing just a single earned run and running up a tally of 27 strikeouts

  • If he pitched as well as he has without having missed so much time, it would be Heaney taking the mantle from Webb as this season's biggest pitching breakout from the NL West

  • Spread: Dodgers -1.5

  • Moneyline: Dodgers -132, Giants +112

  • O/U: 7.5 Total Runs

For My Parlay Gurus

Great teams pour it on when they need to, which is why I've got the Yankees bouncing back and banging home a few long-balls for the over after a loss to the lowly Royals yesterday. I've got the under in our other game of the day, as Andrew Heaney proves to be yet another diamond in the rough for the Dodgers and will be battling with Logan Webb. Take a look πŸ‘‡

  • Mariners vs. Yankees Over 9 Total Runs: -114

  • Dodgers vs. Giants Under 7.5 Total Runs: -108

Trivia Answer: Despite falling off hard to close out his career (382 homers over 13 years), Phillies lifer Ryan Howard needed just 658 games to reach 200 career HRs
