Unpredictable First Half

We're exactly one week from the 2022 All-Star Game in Los Angeles (rosters here), and although we're approaching the midway point of the season, there's already been some unpredictable storylines 👇

  • The Mets are one of the top-5 teams in baseball, and they still haven't had a fully healthy Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom together in their rotation

  • Shohei Ohtani has been one of the top-10 hitters in baseball and one of the top-10 pitchers over the last month, but the Angels are still fourth in the AL West 🤯

  • The Yankees are shaping up to be one of the best teams all-time, already winning 60+ games and harboring three players with 20+ HRs each

With one of the wildest starts to a season in recent years, there's still more competitive baseball to be played this week. We have Chris Sale returning from injury, and an NL East showdown you won't want to miss. Let's dive in ⚾️

Chris Sale Is Back

After nursing a fractured rib for months, Chris Sale will be back on the mound for the Red Sox. It's been a minute, as his last start was October 20, 2021. Sadly, it's been a bumpy road for Sale, including last week's minor league outing for the Worcester Red Sox

  • Sale struggled through 3.2 innings, walking five batters before being taken out

  • He proceeded to have a meltdown in the clubhouse, tearing apart a wall 😤

  • To make matters worse, peep where he stacks up salary wise across all MLB pitchers

The Red Sox organization can only think about the lack of return they've gotten on their $145M investment in Sale back in 2019, who hasn't made the Opening Day roster for the past three seasons due to injury

Unfortunately for Chris, he'll be making his debut against the Rays, a squad that's won both series against Boston this season 👀

Red Sox vs. Rays Betting Preview (subject to change)

  • Spread: Red Sox -1.5 (+132)

  • Moneyline: Red Sox -124 (bet $124, win $100), Rays +106 (bet $100, win $106)

  • O/U: 7.5 Total Runs

Trivia Question: Chris Sale led the league in strikeouts in 2015 & 2017, but he didn't win the AL Cy Young Award in those years (or ever for that matter). Can you name the two pitchers that did? (answer below)

NL East Showdown

One of the most intriguing series this week is definitely the Mets vs. Braves in Atlanta. New York's largest division lead was 10.5 games, but with the Braves going 21-6 in June, the gap has been narrowed to 2.5 games 🤯

  • The majority of this turnaround can be attributed to the Braves, but the Mets' offense has struggled recently, being shutout three times in the past two weeks

  • Not to mention, Starling Marte will likely miss this series with a groin injury, and he leads the Mets in hits with 87

Having to face a red-hot Braves team, who had five players selected for the 2022 All-Star Game, is going to be a tall task for the Mets. We'll see how this series shakes up the standings 😬

Mets vs. Braves Betting Preview (subject to change)

  • Spread: Braves -1.5 (+122)

  • Moneyline: Braves -158, Mets +134

  • O/U: 8.5 Total Runs

For My Parlay Gurus

Red Sox fans have been waiting to see their ace back on the mound, and although I expect some rust in his first start of the 2022 season, I'm riding the feel-good Sale storyline and taking Boston to win. As for the NL East battle, I like the Braves at home coming off a loss, considering they're an outstanding 30-19 at Truist Park this season. Check it out 👇

  • Red Sox ML vs. Rays: -124

  • Braves ML vs. Mets: -158
